Planning tips
Know the temple rules before you go. Tirumala and some other temples have a dress code, and many do not allow phones or cameras inside. Carry the original photo ID used for any darshan booking. Keep a small cloth bag for footwear and some change for offerings. Festival days such as Maha Shivaratri at Srisailam or Vaikunta Ekadasi at Tirumala bring very long queues.
October to February is the most comfortable season for South Indian temple towns. Book two to three weeks ahead for weekends and festival months. On sleeper bus trips, a light shawl and a neck pillow help you arrive rested.
