The One Day Madurai to Rameshwaram Tour Package is a same-day bus trip that starts in Madurai at 7 AM and returns by night. It is meant for devotees and budget travellers staying in Madurai who want to see the island temple town, its holy tanks and Dhanushkodi without paying for a hotel night in Rameswaram.

Route and travel

The shared bus picks everyone up from the chosen boarding points and drives east for about 170 km, roughly 3.5 to 4 hours each way. You cross the sea to Rameswaram island on the Pamban road bridge, with the new rail lift bridge, opened in 2025, running alongside. The drop back in Madurai is planned for about 9 PM, but the operator notes it can be later on busy days. Plan for a long day of about 14 hours.

  • The group moves to a timetable, so return to the bus on time at each stop.
  • New moon days draw very large crowds at Rameswaram for ancestor rituals; pick another date if you can.
  • Simple vegetarian meals are easy to find on the streets around the temple.
