Mysore City Tour
The name Mysore comes from the word "Mysuru", which is taken from Mahishasura, a demon. Goddess Chamundeshwari Devi killed him on top of Chamundi Hills. From then on, the day has been celebrated as the victory of good over evil. At the temple on top of Chamundi Hills, devotees pray to Chamundeshwari Devi with deep faith. Mysore is widely called the "City of Palaces", because many large palaces were built across the Mysore kingdom.
How Mysore grew
During the rule of Krishnaraja Wodeyar III, Mysore grew beyond the walls of the fort and developed very fast. Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV developed many parts of the city. He built beautiful palaces, wide roads, fine buildings, many rose gardens and elegant parks. Today, Mysore is a modern Indian city that still keeps its historical charm.
