Places you will visit

In the city, the favourites are RK Beach, the INS Kursura submarine museum on Beach Road, Kailasagiri hill park with its ropeway, and Rushikonda beach. Simhachalam, the hill temple of Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, is about 16 km from the city centre. Sri Ramanarayanam near Vizianagaram is a Rama temple complex laid out in the shape of a bow and arrow. Arasavalli, near Srikakulam and roughly 110 to 120 km from Vizag, has an old temple of the Sun God. In the hills, Lambasingi is known for fog and very cold winter mornings, and Araku for coffee estates and the Borra Caves. For longer hill stays, see our Araku Tour Packages.

Best time to go

October to February is the most comfortable season, with mild beach days and chilly hill mornings. Lambasingi is at its coldest in December and January. March to June is hot and sticky on the coast. From July to September the hills turn green, but the sea gets rough and beach time is limited.

How to choose the right package

With just one day, pick a city tour, or the Araku or Lambasingi trip if you prefer hills to beaches. Devotees should choose a 2-day temple tour, because Simhachalam queues can be long on weekends and festival days. Chandanotsavam, held in April or May, is the most crowded day of the year at the temple. A car suits families and elders, while the bus city tour is lighter on the budget. From Hyderabad, the train tour saves a long drive and covers the city, the valley and the temple in one plan.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Simhachalam from Vizag city?

It is about 16 km from the centre, usually 30 to 45 minutes by road depending on traffic.

When should I go to Lambasingi?

December and January give the best chance of thick morning fog. Leave Vizag very early, since the mist usually lifts by mid-morning.

Is it safe to swim at RK Beach?

Swimming is not advised at RK Beach because of strong waves and currents. Walk along the shore and follow the lifeguards' instructions.
