Madurai Local Sightseeing by Car is a one-day private car tour that starts from your home, hotel, railway station or bus stop inside Madurai city. It is a comfortable choice for families with elders, small groups and anyone who wants to set their own pace instead of following a shared bus.

Route and travel

The car picks you up anywhere within Madurai city limits and drops you back at the same place. Most stops are inside the city, while Alagar Kovil and Pazhamudircholai are about 20 km to the north. The operator's longer list also adds Samanar Hills and Kutladampatti Falls, which are further out on the west side, so the order of stops is usually worked out with the driver on the day.

  • Start early so that Alagar Kovil and the hill temples are done before the midday heat.
  • Samanar Hills needs a short climb over bare rock; wear shoes, not slippers.
  • Kutladampatti Falls has good water mainly after the rains, from about October to December.
  • Keep your phone in the car before walking into Meenakshi Temple, since phones are banned inside.
  • Tell the driver your priority list at pick-up so the must-do stops come first.
