The 1 Day Nagarjuna Sagar Tour Package from Hyderabad is a shared bus tour that leaves Hyderabad in the morning and returns the same night. It is a good day out for families, students and history lovers who want to see the dam, the island museum and the Buddhist theme park.

Route and travel

The bus starts from Paryatak Bhavan around 7:30 AM and from the Basheerbagh CRO around 8 AM. Nagarjuna Sagar is about 150 to 165 km from Hyderabad, roughly 3 to 3.5 hours by road. After the visits, the bus leaves in the evening and reaches Hyderabad around 9 PM.

  • Buddhavanam - a large Buddhist heritage theme park with stupa, gardens and sculpture.
  • Boat ride on the reservoir to Nagarjunakonda Museum on the island.
  • Nagarjunakonda - relics of the old Buddhist centre moved to the island.
  • Nagarjuna Sagar Dam - view of one of the largest masonry dams in India.

Tips for this trip

  • The boat to Nagarjunakonda takes about 45 minutes each way, so keep to the guide's timing.
  • The island museum is closed on Fridays; choose another day to see it.
  • Lunch is at your own cost as per the itinerary; keep some cash.
  • Wear a cap and carry water; Buddhavanam and the island have little shade.
  • When the reservoir is full, often from August to October, the dam gates may be open for a fine view.
