Planning tips
October to March is the best overall season for South India. The hills are also popular from April to June, when the plains get very hot. The monsoon, roughly June to September, makes the Western Ghats lush, but some roads and viewpoints can be affected by landslides.
Ghat roads to Ooty, Kodaikanal and Coorg have many hairpin bends, so carry motion sickness tablets if needed. Temples in the south often expect traditional dress and ask you to remove footwear, and some do not allow phones inside. Book early for summer holidays and long weekends.
