Day tours from Visakhapatnam

The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation runs sightseeing tours from Visakhapatnam, also called Vizag. This page lists the two that GoldBox Holidays can help you book. We are a private travel company and not part of the state government. We explain the plan, confirm dates and book your seats.

Both trips suit people with only a day or two in the city. You join a group, sit back, and let the tour handle the route. They are also a good way to get a feel for the area before you plan a longer stay in the hills or by the sea.

The two tours

Vizag city tour

The city trip usually covers the RK Beach promenade, the submarine museum at the beach, Kailasagiri hill with its sea view, and the Rushikonda coast. Stops can change with the day of the week, since some museums close on certain days.

Araku rail-cum-road tour

The morning train climbs the Eastern Ghats through many tunnels and bridges. In Araku you may see the tribal museum, coffee gardens and viewpoints. The return is by road, with a stop at the Borra Caves, a large limestone cave system. Window seats on the left side of the train are popular for the valley views.

Planning tips

October to February is the best season. The hills are cool and green after the rains. Araku can be cold in December and January mornings, so carry a sweater. Train seats for the Araku trip are limited and go early on weekends and holidays. Book one to two weeks ahead. Wear shoes with a good grip for the damp floor of the caves.

If you have more time, our private car trips cover the area at your own pace: the Vizag to Araku valley day trip by car (1 day) and the Visakhapatnam-Araku tour (3 days, 2 nights).
